Blingtones and Nail Chromes and Color, Oh My!

This has been the longest week in the history of the entire world, which is why I decided to take a break and chase wigeons yesterday.  It was very therapeutic.

What else is therapeutic?  Color, of course!  My friend (who you briefly met) recently wrote a fascinating paper on color theory.  I would share the gist with you, but that would require a basic understanding on my part…let’s see what I got out of the paragraph she sent me, something about Freud and red and emotions…

Suffice to say, there are times when a pop of bright color can perk you up in an instant.  And if said color happens to come in a glittery or shiny finish, well, take my cash and call me wigeon.

Blingtones from Myface Cosmetics are just the thing to feed my color/shiny thing obsession.  Both look promising in the pan, but as I’ve learned, sometimes pan color doesn’t quite match with actual color payoff.

Luckily, that is not at all the case with either of these shadows: Continue reading

Nail Art for All: Big Ruby Tattoos

*Completely unrelated preface.  To read the actual review, skip past this chunk*

After two nights of ‘easing into’ the school workload (and knowing it can only get worse from this point on), I can safely say that for the majority of the year, I won’t be able to comment on your lovely blogs every single day.  My plan of action is to spend Friday and the weekend catching up on commenting, so please excuse my Monday-Thursday absences :(  Since I want to continue posting on a daily basis, I won’t have time to drop in and leave my thoughts on school nights (Fridays not included because Friday = FREEDOM).  So again, I’m sorry for my silence this week, and I’ll make it up to you guys starting tomorrow!

And now, it’s time for me to show you a nail art product that anyone can use, no matter their skill level.  In fact, if you can’t do nail art with this product, I must say that I’m silently judging you.

(Just kidding!)

Big Ruby is a company that specializes in nail tattoos.  They carry a variety of themed packs, and each pack contains 86 individual tattoos.

Putting Big Ruby Nail Art Tattoos to the test in this Harry Potter themed manicure.  The lightning bolt is from their ‘Cosmic’ set.

I’ll update this post with more product shots tomorrow, but in the meantime you can check out their designs here.

Now I know someone is probably going to ask, “Why would you put tattoos on your nail, you weirdo?”  I am here to enlighten you.

Nail tattoos are similar to nail stickers in function, but they have a completely smooth surface.  Nail stickers often cause polish to pool because of their 3D shape.  Tattoos, on the other hand, adhere directly to the surface of the nail, and appear as if they have been painted on.  In fact, I like to tell people that I painted these on (har har, I’m so talented!)

Application is extremely straightforward.   Continue reading

Trind: The Secret to Ad-Worthy Fingernails

*My giveaway ends tomorrow, so don’t forget to enter :) *

I’ve already introduced you to Trind’s nail polishes, but today I’m going to cover the nail care portion of the brand, which is what they’re best known for.

A little background on my nails before I get into the review.  I’ve been playing piano for years, so I always used to keep my nails extremely short.  Here’s what they looked like before:

When I started to let my nails grow out, they kept splitting and peeling.  I suspect it was partly because they weren’t used to being long, and partly because they were thin and dry and generally uncared-for.

The extremely condensed version of this review is that yes, I definitely saw results with Trind.  I actually had a friend ask me about my bare naked nails when we were sitting in class one day, they looked so good (not to toot my own horn or anything.  Except that’s exactly what I’m doing :P ) Continue reading

Stop, Drop, and Roll…It’s Del Sol!

A day will come when I run out of cheesy titles.  But that day is not today!

I’ve already covered mood polishes on this blog, but today, let’s explore the magic of Del Sol.  If you haven’t heard about them already, these nail polishes change color in the sun.

Before I get into the review, let me first apologize for the quality of my swatches.  There’s a reason I’m not a nail blogger.

Indoor lighting on the left, sun working its magic on the right.  I believe that these were mostly 1-2 coaters.

I’ve seen Ruby Slippers frequently floating around the interwebs.  Why?  It could be that it’s really gorgeous!  The indoor color is a smooth, linear silver glitter, while the outside base color transforms into a pinky-red. Continue reading

Sparkle & Shine With These Born Pretty Store Rhinestones

Rhinestones are one of the easiest ways to make your manicure a little more interesting.  So when I saw Born Pretty Store’s plastic-encased offering, I knew I had to try it out.

The wheel comes with 12 different colors, all of which are sparkly and gorgeous.  There isn’t a single shade that I dislike in here, and there are a couple of really unique ones that I absolutely love (check out that lime green and cobalt blue).  It has a clear plastic lid that slides open to reveal one section at a time.  The packaging is extremely practical, and if you should happen to accidentally knock the wheel over, only one section of shiny things will spill out.

Since I’m sure you all want to see these in action, here’s a ‘fishbowl manicure’ I did the other day.   Continue reading
