The Wednesday Wigeon

The Wednesday Wigeon No.31

Before I get into this week’s TWW, I wanted to share a particularly nice discount code with you guys.  Have you heard of Jewelmint?  If not, here’s a video from the lovely Hollyannaeree, explaining it better than I can:

I find $29.99 per piece a little on the expensive side, but I got a coupon in my Inbox the other day, which was definitely a good deal.  I think this one lasts until the end of today (August 31), so use the promo code EXTENDED70 to get your first piece for $8.99 (shipping is free, but they only ship inside of the US).  If you’re not a member of the site, it would make me happy if you used my referral link, but you don’t have to.  And if anyone’s curious, I ended up purchasing the Aurum necklace.

Ok, onto the questions!

1. What’s your favorite way to relax?

Curling up on the couch with a good book and hot green tea.

2. Do you prefer gold or silver jewelry?

Most of the pieces I own are silver, but every once in awhile I’ll see gold jewelry that I really like.

3. What’s the best book you’ve read lately?

Does re-read count?  I’m loving Perfume by Patrick Süskind (summary here).  The first time I read this was a year ago, and although I thought the story was amazing, my knowledge of perfume was practically nonexistent… fast forward a year, and I still think this is an extremely well-written novel.  The only thing that’s changed is that I’m finally able to fully appreciate how effortlessly Süskind writes about fragrance.  The guy could run a successful perfume blog.  I mean, if he wanted to.  Which he probably doesn’t.

To take part in TWW, just copy/paste the questions, and answer them in the comments!

  1. I’m actually answering the widgeon on a Wednesday!

    1. What’s your favorite way to relax?
I like either curling up with a book or curling up and watching a movie. Hot cocoa required.

    2. Do you prefer gold or silver jewelry?
Silver. Even though gold works well with my skin tone, I’m just not fond of the look.

    3. What’s the best book you’ve read lately?
“Bayou Bodyguard” by Jana DeLeon. Scary mansion with secret passages? Check. Adventure? Check. Handsome dude? Check. It was fun.

  2. 1. What’s your favorite way to relax?
You stole my answer! Hot green tea + good book = divine.
    2. Do you prefer gold or silver jewelry?
Silver or white gold. I find white gold better resistant to wear and tear than silver.
    3. What’s the best book you’ve read lately?
I have read pretty crappy books lately :/ Oh, wait. Geek Love by Katherine Dunn was pretty good!

    • I think white gold is quite pretty too. I love rose gold as well, but I haven’t managed to get my hands on any rose gold jewelry yet.

Great minds think alike, right? *nudge nudge*

  3. 1. What’s your favorite way to relax?
Me on a couch with a drink and Tivo! 😛

    2. Do you prefer gold or silver jewelry?
    I prefer white gold.

    3. What’s the best book you’ve read lately?
I’m currently reading “The Help”. Really good. 😀

  4. 1. What’s your favorite way to relax?
At the moment, I’m going to have to say napping, but I also support curled up with a good book and good tea.

    2. Do you prefer gold or silver jewelry?
Like you, most of my jewelry is silver, but I don’t necessarily think that’s because I prefer silver… I think it’s because it’s harder to find nice gold pieces. What I mean is, silver colored jewelry usually just looks like silver colored jewelry, but gold colored jewelry so often looks really cheap. I actually really like gold, but recently I’ve been really into tarnished brass.

    3. What’s the best book you’ve read lately?
The best book I’ve read lately would have to be a tie, actually, between Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere, which was spellbinding and incredibly fun to read, and Yasunari Kawabata’s Beauty and Sadness, which was both beautiful and actually rather horrifying too.

    • For whatever reason, I always feel very disgruntled after waking up from a nap 😛 I think it’s because I was forced to nap against my will as a child LOL

I agree, a lot of inexpensive gold jewelry tends to look cheap, while silver jewelry at the same price can actually look decent.

Both books sound interesting, I’ll add them to my to-read list.

  5. 1. What’s your favorite way to relax?
    Reading a good book.

    2. Do you prefer gold or silver jewelry?
    silver.

    3. What’s the best book you’ve read lately?
I’ve read lots of nice books lately, but none that really stands out. Mmm, maybe Dracula by Bram Stoker. I’m on a classic book phase at the moment.

      • My favourite historical fiction book is Mistress of the Revolution by Catherine Delors. It’s the story of a poor French noblewoman during the Revolution. It’s very moving and one of the very few books that made me shed a tear or two. I also love Georgette Heyer’s book, especially Venetia and Sylvester. They are romances but Heyer recreates the Regency World down to the very last detail perfectly. The language can be difficult at times as the characters use words that aren’t common anymore. Oh, and Melanie Clegg books are really good too.
