Dolce & Gabbana Does Holiday Beauty Right

This has been a fantastic week, press release-wise. There’s something about holiday beauty that just gets me every time, and when Dolce & Gabbana‘s latest launch landed in my inbox last week, I just about lost it. Inspired by their A/W runway (one of my favorites in recent memory), Sicilian Jewels is an utterly fresh take on holiday beauty—and I love it.

The collection features four corresponding lip & nails shades: Ruby (deep red), Amethyst (bright purple), Emerald (ice-cold, luminous green), and Topaz (amber yellow). The cream color lipsticks ($35) come wrapped in ‘gem’-topped golden tubes, while the lacquers ($28) feature their traditional, ever-chic packaging. It’s a departure from the more subdued color palette I’ve come to expect from the brand, but I’m all for green and gold lipsticks when they look this luxurious. Leave it to D&G to completely reinterpret jewel tones.

“They can be worn in a young, ironic interpretation or with a more grown-up, sophisticated vibe,” says makeup legend Pat McGrath, “Just like a piece of jewelry.”

Also launching this season are two limited edition scents: The One ($108) and The One for Men ($82). The limited edition flacons are quite possibly the shiniest I’ve seen, one a warm gold, the other a smooth platinum silver. The One is billed as a modern floriental, with notes of mandarin, lychee, peach, Madonna Lily, amber, musk, and vanilla—”warm and enigmatic.” The One for Men continues in a similar vein, a “harmony of tobacco notes and refined spices.” The fragrance also contains notes of grapefruit, coriander, basil, cardamom, ginger, orange blossom, cedarwood, ambergris, and tobacco.

Mark those shopping lists! Sicilian Jewels is now available at select Saks locations and online at saksfifthavenue.com. You can find D&G’s holiday fragrances at select Neiman Marcus locations and on the NM website.
